History of Blackjack Game

As we all know blackjack is a card game. The cards originated in China sometime in 900 AD. At least it is believed so. The Chinese started shuffling their money and had different variations. And the cards were called "paper tickets" then.

History of Cards

The cards were developing and were improved or, as some scholars believe, invented by the Islam people. The patterns were difficult to understand. But once the cards reached the Mediterranean coast of such countries as Spain and Italy, the patterns were changed. Royal representatives were drawn on them. That is how the Kings appeared there.

Johann Gutenberg, the first official printer, was the first one to print the deck of cards. As there was a King on a pattern, the appearance of Queen followed in the 16th century. It happened due to the French players, who replaced one of the male cards with a female one.

That is how the traditional deck of 52 cards appeared. It was a gradual process that ended in 17th century. It finished in France and later found popularity in England.

History of Blackjack

The scholars suppose that the French invented blackjack. They had their games of "Chemin de Fer" and "French Ferme." In 18th century they woke with a thought to create something new and made up "Vingt-et-Un" (twenty one). Later the game was spread to the United States in the 19th century. The rules were changed.

"Vingt-et-un" was really similar to blackjack game but was different. The main goal of the game to have 21 points in "Natural," and the players were to bet on every round. The dealer had a considerable advantage over the players as he could double if he had natural and the players were to pay triple.

Italians might have also participated in the blackjack creation. There is "Seven and a Half" game. This game was played with only 8, 9, 10s and face cards. The face cards were counting as half. There were also wild cards: King of Diamonds. And the players automatically lost if they had cards, the total sum of which was over 7.5.

Spaniards were not special and also played a similar game. They called it "One and Thirty." The total number the players were to make was 31 instead of 21 and they were dealt three cards instead of two. Then different strategies were developed but improved later.
